Two memories of the Dunes for me, circa 1990.

First of all, they had the slowest elevators I have ever seen. I remember staying on a high level floor and waiting a full 5 minutes for an elevator to arrive.

I was there for my 21st birthday and had a table and was working at a large baseball card show at the hotel. I was an hour away from leaving to drive back home and I was down to the last $15 of my gambling budget in my wallet.

Tried some random slot and I won $300, which was a LOT of money for me back then. Sure made the drive back to San Diego much easier..
