By my definition, redeemability has NOTHING to do with obsolescence. Period. Many casinos will redeem every chip they ever made. Some will redeem anything you walk in with that remotely resembles circular clay, in order to get your play. Redemption in this case has nothing to do with obsolescence, but with simply customer relations.
The test is, once they have redeemed it, will they drop in in the rack to be played? Will they return it to inventory to be sold to the next collector asking for one at the cage? And BTW, since cage managers and other casino personel are often quite aware of value in the secondaryu market, the fact an insider gets first dibs on a rare LE coming back in does not by itself make it obsolete.
