You're right about the new marquee...I wasn't even looking at that side of the street!

Checked both the 1931 and 1933 phone books...the State Cafe isn't listed in either of them (but the Crystal Cafe, which didn't list a street name or number, had the phone number of "2"!)

Neither is the Ely Theater.

There is a Palace Club listed in 1931, but there was no street name or number

Keep in mind that the Ely listings in 1931 and in 1933 were only 5 columns each year! And the phone books are only about 6"x9")

Trying to find an answer, I just pulled out 1937, 1938 and 1939 phone books...still no listing for the State Cafe. (And there were still only five columns of listings for Ely!)
