Although I was a child at the time, I remember that night fairly well. Amazingly, it was on a Monday night. If I’m not mistaken, movie theaters were showing the fight live as a sort of pay per view. Every few minutes, the radio stations would give a recap of the previous round. You had no idea who was ahead on points or rounds, and after the last round, I clearly remember hearing the bells ringing on the radio and the radio announcer quickly stated, “Joe Frazier retains his heavyweight title”. Very exciting!
