Typically these cafes used phone cards to buy credit to play the machines and the machines would payout winnings back onto the phone cards. Many cafes just used whatever magnetic strip card they could get, typically adding a sticker with their logo or name, etc. Customers could then cash out their phone cards to get their winnings.
