Not much better here in Houston
In Response To: NCR -- Sunny, But Freezing ()

Hi AJ,

Good to see you are dealing with this as good as can be expected.

We live in Spring, on the north side of Houston, and we got 2 1/2 inches (only the 4th time I've seen snow here since moving here in 1998) that is still hanging around.

Along with another 1.4 million customers in the general area, we lost power at 2:15 am Monday morning, and were fortunate to get it back earlier this morning after going without for 30+ hours.
NOT a good way to spend the day when we tied the record low in Houston at 15 degrees... grin

Growing up near Chicago, I am certainly well aware of what cold really is, however there is no debating that the houses down here are not built to withstand these sort of abusing temperatures. Single pane windows, uninsulated water pipes in attics, and no power equals an awfully cold night. It was 44 degrees inside our house when the power came back.

On the positive side, it is always good to experience these times once in awhile so we can better appreciate a lot of the comforts we have come to take for granted.

Hopefully the worst is behind us, but it seems like there is another storm following right behind that is predicting "accumulating ice amounts", so it might make for a trying week...

Stay Safe.
