I think it might help if the MoGH could define their end game. Be specific, with dollar figures needed to "open", plus a 10 year pro forma (I think that's what it's called) outlining the ongoing revenues and expenses expected and needed once the museum is opened.
Post a big ol' thermometer to show how far along they are toward getting the initial funds needed to secure the land and building.
Then, describe how the MoGH intends to fund ongoing operations (don't build it if if you can't maintain it). Let's say property taxes, building maintenance, cleaning, sorting, intake, dissolution, security, receptionist, advertising, paid docents/guides) will come to $20,000/yr (just a random number - I have zero insight as to costs). Are there enough funds in endowments, interest earned on monies in the bank, perpetual giving, committed ongoing pledges, charges for visitors, anticipated cash dropped into the "donations are appreciated" box at the front door, and so on, to keep the doors open? If so, weekends only? 7 days/week? Seasonal? Only when there's a big fight in town?
I, for one, was also unclear as to how the MoGH related to the CCA, so I'm happy to have read the various explanations that have been offered so far (thank you, everyone, for your part in that).
I'm relatively new to the club (joined just after the 2019 convention). I've owned my own business for 25 years, acquired 21 other businesses in that time, and served on the boards of a few non-profits, so I'm keenly aware of how differently books/financials can look from the inside and the outside. While I'm not seeking to serve in any board capacity with the CCA or the MoGH, I'd be glad to help as a disinterested (?) 3rd party in putting together some concise information about the state of either/both as well as helping to put together the forward-looking plan in such a way that it can be presented to the public (membership, mainly) so that everyone understands the roles and the goals. Of course, the current officers and committee members can probably do all of this without my help as well. Either way, it may serve to not only inform the membership, but also may serve to generate greater interest (and therefore, contributions) towards a project more will see as valuable to the club.
