I had a couple of similar situations. I don’t sell that much on , and very few items of high value. The last two bigger $ items I sold were a Rocky Marciano autographed program (around $1,000), and a collections of $5 casino boxing chips (around $500). Both items were paid by bidders with “0” feedback.
used to allow you to block bidders with low or no feedback. They stopped offering that option as (I think rightfully so) how is anyone to get feedback if they can’t buy anything?
Anyway, both transactions turned out fine. I was paid in full with no problems. My suggestion to you is (if you can) update your listing to say something like: “Any bidder with a positive feedback of less than 5 or 10 needs to contact me within 24 hours of the auction close or their bid will be cancelled.” If someone pays you without contacting you, send a message through explaining the same. If there is no response, cancel the auction and send the $ back. You can then contact the next bidder with a 2nd chance offer.
I wouldn’t be too concerned about someone trying to pull a switch. You have a watch with a serial # on it. Just make sure your auction pictures have detailed pictures of the watch and serial #. That should cover you.
I am a member of a couple of sports collectible FB pages, and I can’t tell you how many complaints I have seen where the buyer claims the baseball card he received was not in the condition advertised, and the seller claims the buyer swapped out his lesser card for the better one. That’s why most card collectors only want them slabbed and graded.
Hope this helps.
