I was put to quarantine in the Waikiki Marriott in November. My test results hadn’t come in yet. I was put on the 23rd floor, a special floor for this purpose. I was given a one-time-use card key so presumably if I left my room, I wouldn’t be able to get back in without telling someone. I ordered food through Uber eats and doordash, which had to be dropped off at the bell desk, who then left it on a table outside my room. At 7am on my second day, I got my negative result, which I uploaded to the state website, and they immediately sent back a release from quarantine. Two days later, I got a thank you from the Hawaii Safe Travels program, and they offered me another free test. They said it was totally optional and they are just double checking the mainland results, but if I tested positive, I would not be allowed on the plane home. There are worse places to be stuck, so I took the test at a 24 hour clinic. They told me very few people take the second test and none had ever tested positive in their clinic. If you were wondering, I would say 60% of businesses were open in Oahu. I rented a car and drove around the island.
