I'd like to know what specific costs are for the magazine? If it costs just as much to make less hard copies, as I read here, then maybe production could be cut back. (here goes and I apologize in advance to the award winning editors who work so hard over the years)
Before the magazine was square binding, perfect bound, full color, it was color on the outside, which if I remember was at one time Green and Black. Inside was black and white. The magazine was stapled. While it's really nice and well presented, very professional, if the problem is cost, how about go back to black and white inside? Unless of course I'm wrong and color doesn't cost that much more?
The content is pretty much the same, the words and most of the images. Yes I understand the chip colors can be important, but most of the time, the stories and reports and articles could be monochrome? Or the outside pages, color and the inside black and white?
That is, if the problem is the expense of the type setting and color photos. While the magazine is professional and really nice, it's a club newsletter and for information. If there was a paid circulation and advertising offset the costs, that would be different. Go back to computer word processing, instead of professional typesetting.
I'd be willing to give up some of the frills, to keep the magazine in hard copy for some of us who like reading and saving them. Optional digital for others who would like that and don't desire a paper version.
