Been going on all over for years. Local at my old office, someone broke into the truck rental yard and stole them off all their trucks. Don't leave any wire out, like a big motor, it will vanish overnight. Scrap yards are targeted for Aluminum wheels. Which always makes me ask, who's fencing all these stolen items, because they are supposed to be documented for the police?
Burglars entered through manholes on the 34th Street and Canal Street subway stations and stole thousands of dollars worth of copper wire, authorities said Friday.
An estimated 30,000 feet of copper wire was jacked along the 1, 2,3 subway lines on Oct. 23, causing $10,000 worth of losses, police sources said.
Police said the suspects must have known where to enter to get to the wire.
Replies said, hey, inside job? Did the wire actually exist? And my thought was, how do you get 30,000 feet of wire out through a manhole? Wait a minute, 700 pounds give or take?
$100 to $300 for a scrap catalytic converter? Probably much less when it has to be turned over illegally.
