I worked my first year in college as a radio engineer at the university station mainly listening to the DJ's play jazz and read news. The next 3 years I worked at a radio station downtown during the evening shift. I did my homework and read hundreds of paperback books during my shifts. My job was to put on an easy listening tape (and play a few commercials). The tapes lasted 4 hours so I wasn't overworked.
