Re: But there's already a rail line between L A an

Last I looked, the Amtrak stopped in Kingman Arizona and the bus carried people to Las Vegas. (or you can rent a car) There's no passenger train to Las Vegas. Bus by the way, could be a van ride. This is not something that people want to do.

Aside from the realistic parts, I'm a railfan and I'd like a train to Las Vegas. grin

I don't know the details and flaws in the route. The way Xtrain has rights to the lines, is leased from the freight companies, who really don't want passenger service. The high speed rail, is a nice idea, and half the time of driving oneself, should actually be appealing. I consider that many people would be willing to abandoned their cars and walk for a weekend, especially with parking and resort fees. I read the changing route pipe dreams, along highway 15, which actually makes some sense, but how do they expect to recover the costs?

I will admit, in these times, the idea of a train, HSR to Las Vegas is a hard sell and maybe not the best business venture.

I just keep up on the news, because it's entertainment.

I bought a pass for the monorail, last time I was in Las Vegas. I rode end to end and used it for some sightseeing. That is a tragic fail. They stuffed it out of the way, in back, you end up walking through subterranean corridors and a maze on the South end, basement of MGM Grand. It should have gone to the airport but you know some transportation lobby, like cab drivers, killed that. On the positive, it was fun, it ran well, the station on the North end Harrah's was well placed in the back of a public plaza. We didn't go to the real North end.

Las Vegas Monorail Co., the nonprofit behind the city’s elevated train, filed for bankruptcy with plans to sell the transit system to a local government agency after the Covid-19 pandemic halted operations.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has agreed to buy the four-mile, seven-station monorail out of bankruptcy for just $24 million, court papers show. That’s a pittance compared to the $650 million of municipal bonds sold to finance its takeover and expansion in 2000.

Second time.
