I have served as a ballots counter in several past elections for Neighborhood Council elections, in the areas of Arleta and North Hollywood North East (within Los Angeles). Being inside the "private room" I can assure you that we were honest and careful in our counts and cross-checked our tallies. It was even more critical for us because, in one election, we had all of 8 ballots to count and certify to the Los Angeles City Elections Board. All too easy for the ignorant and gossip-mongers outside to assume all sorts of shenanigans were going on.
