Hi Jill... Could it be possible that the articles you are reading are referring to solids and spotted; with and without inlays? In other words if a chip with an inlay had spots maybe that is a spotted inlay and if a chip with an inlay and no spots on the slug would be a solid... and that the term spotted is referring to inserts?
