NCR: St. Valentine's Day Massacre...

The most infamous gangland rub-out of them all... February 14, 1929... gunmen acting on the orders of Al Capone murdered
7 men at a garage located in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood (2122 N. Clark Street)... 5 of the men were members of Bugs
Moran's North Side Gang which had been waging a bloody war with the south-side-based Capone mob for control of the illegal
beer and liquor business in Chicago... here's what the location looked like at the time...

Notice the telephone number of the business: "Diversey 1471" (only six digits)... and the columns on the building next door in the
extreme left of the picture... now, thanks to Google street view, here's the same address photographed in color a year or two ago...

The same columns can be seen in front of the still-standing building next door, but the lot where the S-M-C Cartage garage stood
is an empty lot... I lived four blocks down the street in the mid 70's at 1750 N. Clark Street.
