Re: Las Vegas Train - Recent news

If this is a first step in high-speed train service between LOS ANGELES and Las Vegas, then it has a small chance of working.

I would like to know where the train will arrive in Las Vegas? Near the Strip or Downtown, or way out in Primm, like the XTrain was going to do?

Also, according to press release, the train starts in Victorville, CA. That's a solid 1 to 1-1/2 hours drive from Los Angeles up to the high desert.

Press release (partial) --
"Officials with the high-speed rail have said the 170-mile long trip between the Victor Valley Region to Las Vegas will be built within the median of the I-15. Electric and zero emission trains will reach top speeds of 200 miles per hour, transporting passengers between destinations in 85 minutes, the company has said."

On Google maps, this same I-15 route takes an automobile 165 minutes, so the train would shave only 80 minutes from that part of the trip. And you will have to drive up to Victorville, park (+parking fee), plus wait for the train (the ticket will be much more than the $20-$25 in gas money), plus you won't have your car to get around in Las Vegas. Pay for Uber's instead. Then repeat in reverse going back to LA.

Personally, I don't think a Virgin-LV (x-Hard Rock) package that even included FREE round trip on the train would be particularly attractive.

At least it's not using public money, unlike the infamous California Bullet Train project (also known as Jerry Brown's Train to Nowhere!)
