An EBayer was on the inaugural cruise of the Carnival Panorama -- sailing in December 2019 out of Long Beach, CA -- where the ship was previously christened by TV personality Vanna White of Wheel Of Fortune Fame. Panorama is in the Vista Class of Carnival ships and was originally built in Fincantieri Italian Shipyards for P&O Cruises, Australia, but was transferred to Carnival Cruise Lines before being released from the shipyard. She joined the Vista and Horizon. Adding to the mystery, Panorama did not go to Australia, but sailed directly across the Atlantic. The EBAY seller only mentioned the chips -- all without a ship name -- but with an image of a Vista Class ship on reverse of each denomination. I passed on them thinking they were generic. I started collecting cruise line chips, and have sailed on P&O and Costa Cruise Lines -- both owned by Carnival but usually sail in the Mediterranean and Australian-New Zealand waters. On the ships that sail to the Caribbean and U.S. ports -- a second rack of chips are used as they replace the A$ (Australian and Euro marked chips) with a generic one with $US value on them. Here's what I think since I remember seeing the EBAY listing is that since there was such short notice about shifting the ship over for U.S. ports -- headquartered in Long Beach, CA -- the cruise line used the back-up chips that were in U.S. currency, and withheld the A$ chips since the casino didn't have time to replace the chips. Panorama's fate ended shortly after their inaugural 3-Day cruise due to the Pandemic as one passenger caused the ship to be quarantined after returning to the U.S. from the Mexican Rivera. The Panorama is still ported in Long Beach, but it is uncertain when she will return to service. As a side note, we sailed al lot on Costa in Europe -- all Italian populated ships. Once on the Costa Atlantica, I noticed while playing Black Jack there were Euro value chips and the U.S. ones without names. Casino dealers tried to wrestle them away -- saying they should have not been on the tables. If anyone else can add to this story, please help us understand the cruise line industry's use of two value chips on different areas where their ships sail.
