I don't know if there are two Dunes $1 color variations or not.
There is a book coming later this year that will answer a lot of questions for us.
The Burt records are being published.
Jim Blanchard assures me there are no color viariations in re-orders of Burt chips. IMO there are color variations in re-orders of Paul-son chips. The reason is, the process that the 2 companies use to make the chips. Burt used equipment that put much more pressure on the chip while still in the mold. This forced a great deal more water out of the chips. Result, truer colors and sharper colors.
Here is a good example.
Burt made the Christy Jones shiney hats. Beautiful chips. After PS took over the mold, they ordered and sold more shiney hats than Christy Jones ever did. After PS went into their own chip production and had the mold sent to them, they produced and sold chips from the same mold BUT there was no shine to the hats. PRESSURE, per Blanchard.
Blanchards book will be the most complete record of chips from the early 50's through the middle 70's. It will have scans of chips and the original art work.
Hopefully someday the PS records will be available to us.
Another issue that will be resolved for us is the order of issue of chips. Blanchard tells me, we are not even close on which chip came 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.
I have a CCGTCC magazine article coming in the next issue on the arodie mold. The order of issue of inlayed arodies is in it, thanks to Blanchard.
