I had a world class collection and was offered “20-25% of LOW book value” by a well known dealer. Folks, marketed properly you get make far more than what a dealer will offer. Here’s what I’ve learned selling my collection the past 5 months:
1. Definitely a market for chips valued over $100. The greater the value, the greater the buyer interest
2. Use eBay auctions to attract followers. Auctions are usually a loss leader but you can attract followers
3. Set up a store and post the chips as BIN. Be realistic on pricing
4. Buyers want chips in slightly used to excellent condition
5. I built an email list of over 70 chip collectors that bought from me when I posted the sale announcement in Jan
I sent email announcements to these buyers on the weekly eBay auctions with chip scans of what was being offered
6. Do the eBay auctions once a week on a set day and time
7. Post high resolution scans plus both sides of the chips.
8. Look up on eBay what a similar chip is currently selling for on eBay. I review the pricing and condition of the competing chip and base my pricing on that
9. Service service service. Respond to inquiries from prospective buyers immediately
I’ve been thinking of offering a service whereby I’ll sell your chips using my methodology. If interested, contact me
Thank you to everyone that has purchased chips from me
