San Marino is the oldest and the smallest independente state all over the world.





San Marino is a small independent republic, with only 61km2. Is stuck in Italy, being completely surrounded by it. After the Second World War, in 1947 was opened a casino in the Republic of San Marino, which had a very short life, being closed due to strong pressure from the Italian Government. Later the Republic of San Marino signed an agreement that guarantees its abstention in the reopening of new casinos, giving those rights to Italy. The casino closed its doors in August 1951st, and was later used exclusively as a venue for conferences and cultural initiatives. Today in the building is installed the Centro Congressi Kursaal ( Kursaal Congress Centre )

San Marino is one of the smallest and oldest sovereign states in Europe. For the first time, the gambling in San Marino was legalized in 1880 in order to obtain additional revenues to pay off the government debt. In 1947 was opened a casino in the Republic of San Marino, which had a very short life, being closed due to strong pressure from the Italian Government. Later the Republic of San Marino signed an agreement that guarantees its abstention in the reopening of new casinos, giving those rights to Italy.Casinos were legal until 1949. when the government announced a ban on any gambling in the country. The ban was lifted in 2007. “The mostly state-owned company Giochi del Titano was founded on May 2, 2007 in the Republic of San Marino. The shareholding structure of Giochi del Titano Spa comprises of the following partners: the State of San Marino with 76% of the shares and the San Marino Chamber of Commerce with the remaining 24%. Share capital € 1,500,000. The Company has the following Business Purpose: Run the Halls and premises in which the gaming activities governed by Law No. 67 of 25 July 2000 and subsequent amendments and additions take place.
