Not only did the place burn down, but 4 firefighters fell through the roof battling the blaze.
I first went to the Caribe in maybe 2011 . . . soon after I began collecting chips. The club was closed by then, with notices posted at its doors. Something to the effect that the mortgage had been foreclosed on, some firm in Sacramento now claimed ownership by default. The door unexpectedly opened, and there was a maintenance man, tearing out old carpeting and heaving it into several dumpsters left in the parking lot. He told me that the casino would reopen in a few months after being "redecorated." I returned a few months after that, the building was deserted. Walked around the parking lot in hopes of finding any Caribe chip - and saw an orange chip sticking up in a planter - it was an old Bicycle 50ยข chip, CG 028097!
Several months after that, I returned to see a small trailer parked in the lot - obviously a watchman on the premises, so I did not tarry.
The electricity to the premises remained on (the casino sign was illuminated at night) - I figured that they were keeping the security cameras active. The place gave me the creeps.
The last time I passed by the Caribe, the little trailer was gone from the lot . . . and a few days later, I learned of the fire. Very strange timing, that!
