RESPONSE

This story has several different versions of who's basement it was.

I cannot respond to what others claim to have seen. I stopped on my way from the Cape--after telephoning the man. His little 1&1/2 story hourse was situate on U.S. Rte 9. I remember how excited I was to see all the chips. He wanted to sell all of them and didn't appear interested in selling just a couple. I was able to talk him into selling me one of each color of the "BC" inlays (or Crest & Seal) chips. The following summer at an outdoor show in Liverpool, a couple had a bunch of his chips for sale; again, I passed on the "ugly" grin hot stamped chips but took a couple more of the inlays. They said that they were selling the chips for the investigator and told the same story as he had told me. A couple of years later I drove to his home by now a wiser and somewhat richer man (Dead of the Law School and Deans get paid more than most faculty) intending to buy the chips--or at least a bunch of them. But he was no longer there. I later learned he died. Somewhere I have his name since I wrote him a letter and I still have most of my correspondence but it is archived away from my office and would take a lot of time to find. That is my "proof." I believe it to be true. Jim may be willing to tell you who his supplier is (or was).
