Heat (1987): Nick (Burt Reynolds) is a bodyguard with a dream, he wants to live in Venice, Italy. Meanwhile he lives and works in Las Vegas, in an office that is shared with an attorney.
A friend of Nick’s, a hooker, is brutalized and beaten. He tracks down the John, a spoiled rich kid with “connections”, and helps his friend exact her revenge. Of course the John then goes after Nick.
A rather wimpy young man hires Nick to guard him while he gambles. Nick doesn’t really understand this, as the man is playing for small stakes. Eventually it comes out that the man has problems with his self-esteem. He’s hoping that Nick will teach him to fight, and to feel like a man.
For those who love old Vegas and gambling: I don’t know if the whole movie was filmed in Vegas. If it was, there were a lot of shots of streets, alleys and neighborhoods that the tourists rarely saw. There’s also several shots of the strip. A lot of the gambling takes place in the old Aladdin, using chips that appear to be Aladdin chips. There’s a $500 chip that might be N_____, which could explain why the chip is described as “…..reverse is hot stamped”.
