The Las Vegas Hillbillys (1966): The name and description of this movie suckered me in. “In the backwoods of Tennessee, country singer Woody Weatherby receives word that he has inherited a casino in Las Vegas.” Sounds fun…right? I mean, I loved the Beverly Hillbillies when I was a kid.
If I liked country music, I might say something like “corny but cute”. Personally, though, I don’t care much for country music…soooo…the movie didn’t have much of a plot, and I fast forwarded through several country songs, including some sung by Ferlin Husky, Sonny James, Connie Smith, Bill Anderson and Del Reeves. The most interesting thing about this movie was seeing “sex goddesses” Mamie Van Doren and Jayne Mansfield playing roles as intelligent blondes. I can only give the movie 1 star
For those who love old Vegas and gambling: Don’t let the name of the movie fool you. There was one shot (stock footage?), that lasted maybe 30 seconds, of the strip. Other than that, the gambling scenes were all at the “Golden Circle Casino” which was probably constructed on a movie lot. There was one shot of some chips, but I didn’t try to zoom in on them because I didn’t want to prolong the agony. A very disappointing .5 “chip”
