CASINO BALNEARIO ATLANTICO- RIO DE JANEIRO
The casinos ( brazilians use the term cassinos) arrived in Brazil during the Empire and were attended even by the Emperor D.Pedro II. With the establishment of the republic in 1917 went underground. In 1934 President Getulio Vargas allowed the reopening of casinos. By decree of 30 April 1946, the government of President Marechal Dutra ordered the closure of casinos. Then 71 casinos were closed all over Brazil.
It is said that the decision would have been influenced by Dutra's wife, Carmela Teles Leite Dutra, known as “Dona Santinha”( Madame Litlle Saint), of fervent Catholic formation, who would have joined the Church's campaign against the libidinous environment of the casinos.
Until today the casinos have remained closed.
