The New Casino opened its doors on the 1st January 1901, on the “Ciappadea Cliff” behind Rapallo´s Kursaal, later called Excelsior Palace Hotel. It was situated 6kms from Portofino, in the western part of Golfo del Tigullio ( Tigullio Gulf). Became a reference, attracting the high-society clientele, from all Europe, going to the Riviera attracted by the climate and by calls of the green tables. On the first day of July of 1907 is born the Kursaal, the temple of the Opera, Operetta and Worldliness. Was located on Corso Roma. CASINO LACO MAGGIORE

The second largest lake in Italy, Lake Maggiore is situated in the north west and crosses the border into Switzerland. In the Italian part of the lake one of the main tourist resorts is Stresa.An illustrious resident in the late 1800’s put Stresa on the map for the rich and famous; the Duchess of Genoa bought became summer residents of Stresa. Noblemen from Milan began to come to Stresa and build magnificent villas. It was at the beginning of the 20th century that Stresa eventually took off as a tourist resort.In an effort to entice more visitors the idea was had to open a Spa Centre and in 1910 this idea was realised with the opening of the Kursaal Spa Centre and CASINO were these days there is the cable car station. There was a skating ring, exhibitions, concerts, spa treatments and the casino. As there are only five licences for casinos in Italy, Stresa became well known. CASINO EXCELSIOR MONTECATINI

The first news of a gambling room in Montecatini spa dates back to 1816 located in the upper rooms of the Locanda Maggiore.It had the access very restrict and confidential. It will be the meeting place for over 90 years for selected guests. In 1907 he will find more suitable accommodation at the Excelsior,inaugurated in the same year, and finally at the Kursaal in 1915. Opened in 1907, the Excelsior complex was to house the Casino Municipal Excelsior, including a cafe concert, with associated gambling and writing rooms. CASINO SORRENTO

The Casino Municipale di Sorrento opened in 1922, on May 7 in the Villa Gunderrade. It lasted only 3 months. After the WWII, in 1946 everything was ready for the great opening of the new Casino, in Villa Battista, but it was stopped by government few hours before, the buffet was already setup it was told. Same story on April 22, 1974. Achille Lauro, well known businessman, used political influence to open the Casino in Hotel Europa, but the police stopped it the first day. The last try to open a casino was done in 1977 by Anna de Marinis ceo of Beatrice s.p.a., in the Hotel Miramare, she got a 20 year concession from municipality of Sorrento, she paid 60 millions of Lire for the license, but she was stopped again by police the day before opening, fixed on February 7 1977.( from CHIPGUIDE-Mauro Benassi)
