Unheard-of that 93.1 JACK FM would drop the oldies rock format for all-day news about the crash - but that's what happened.
I live about 30 miles east of Calabasas, it was extremely foggy here this morning - "socked in" as pilots would say. Apparently the flight originated in Orange County where maybe the skies were clear. A low-pressure system moving to the north of us may have contributed to the unusually heavy fog. The radio played an unusual sound clip from an Air Traffic Controller speaking with the pilot who was having trouble, suggested he find the (101) Freeway and follow it. The helicopter pilot did not mention any mechanical issues, and the radio transmission ended, chillingly, with Air Traffic saying "you're still too low" or words to that effect. I know the location of the crash, have driven along Las Virgenes Road for years getting to the beach. It is a hillside, once used to graze sheep until housing began to creep up the hill.
