... my Dad was a volunteer fireman. My youngest son is now thinking of becoming a fireman. I feel sympathy for everyone killed in these attacks and anger over all of their deaths, but the deaths of so many public safety people (firemen, police officers, paramedics and EMT's, etc.) is particularly distressing. While everyone else was trying to get OUT of these buildings, they were trying to get IN to help others. Where do we find people like that? Brave, courageous, selfless -- all are poor words that inadequately describe what these people are, every day.
I grieve for your neighbor's loss, Charles. It is hard to imagine what it must be like for him. As if ALL of the regular posters on this board except one had been in that building. That's what it will be like for him.
