Re: The reason for our reeded edge coinage

Excellent point, but in 1875 the government minted the twenty cent piece, which was silver and had a plain edge. Probably to help distinguish it from the quarter which was almost identical in size, weight, and obverse design. For this reason, it didn’t last very long and I’m told only circulated in the far west. A great collector’s item today though.
