The U.S. Mint uses Fed Ex with the last delivery made by the U.S. Postal Service. It was called "SmartPost" or some dumb name like that. Same situation: the package meandered across the country for more than a week in Fed Ex hands.

I now opt for the upgrade to Priority Mail and have no problems. I just can't believe that a government department would use something other than the USPS - and to ship valuables on top of that.
