…REGGIE

PS: IF YOU DO NOT SEE IT IN MY POD, AND IT IS A RECENT CHIP, MORE THAN LIKELY IT WILL BE IN MY $1 OR $5 FACE VALUE PAGES.

Below please find my State of the Pages of the Day statement. Followed by the POD of the day.

THE POD 2019/2020

This past year I have started selling off my collections. But, I am still collecting; here is what my main interests are: Chips with Card Images, MT, CA, Las Vegas, Reno, small town NV and Canada. This is pretty much in order of importance to yours truly.
The year of 2019 starting in July, will be a year much change, and posturing for the POD. I have sold or absorbed into my inventory all the states that I originally planned to. I do have some one interested in my FL, SD, & Wet Chips collections; which is my last main objective of selling.
I have found by publishing only one POD a week it is the easiest and most productive. There are now a total of 60 different POD’s, a complete cycle of these 60 takes a full year to complete, and I have it beginning shortly after the annual CCA show/convention in Las Vegas, and finishing up about a week before the next one. When a POD is fairly light weight, I will publish sometimes two POD’s that week. These days are usually Thursday’s and Saturday’s.
Even though, I did very well with my POD’s and other methods of selling off over half of my collection. I feel that the degree of interest in our hobby is continuing to wane. I fear that it will be up to a handful of the younger members & millenial’s, to keep our hobby on a steady course.
I would like to from the bottom of my heart thank all of my guest Author’s for their fun and enlightening slants on harvesting and exploring new and old Casino’s and Card Rooms.
Another bright spot in our hobby is Charles Kaplan’s new ingenious Chip Query that allows us to trade, and see each members collections.
I have in the past pretty much stuck to what it was I was trying to do for the new year, and what I had done in the past year. This years statement is more or less a commentary on the way things in our hobby really are.
One of the reasons I made the comment that our hobby is on the wane is because, you cannot give “chips” away in many instances. The amount of CB readers are about ½ of what it was 5 years ago. Despite the lower readership of the CB I will continue to publish the POD. I do believe that it won’t be too many more years and I will have to stop though. I love to play with my chips, but age, and interest is working against me. I love this hobby and I hope we all can work towards bringing it to other yet, to be found hobbyists. Sincerely Reggie

A GUEST AUTHOR’s HARVEST STORY

PECHANGA RESORT CASINO REVISITED

By:JAMES ERIC FREEDNER

REVISING MY CHIP HUNT STORY FOR YOU....

Hi, Reggie,

Pechanga Resort Casino has added a big hotel wing and a parking garage, replacing the ground-level outdoor lot it used to have. You drive in to the south side to enter the building and drive out the north side to leave. For some reason, this seems to greatly confuse most visitors. The parking spaces have little electronic lights above them. When the space is filled, the gizmo knows and turns the light red; when a space is empty, it turns to green. So you can drive along and quickly spot where the next parking space is. Whether a supersized pickup can fit in it is another question.

They even put in a moving walkway on the ground level so when people exit the parking lot, they sort of glide into the casino.

They are also building some shops to the south of the parking area. Maybe hoping for "Pechanga Outlet Stores" like Viejas Casino has. All the California Indian casinos are expanding like crazy these days.

Now along with these improvements, Pechanga "rebranded" with a new logo, a P with feather vanes at the end. This logo is on everything: slot cards, napkins, door mats, etc. Thus I had "advance knowledge" that new chips with that logo would eventually have to be put on the tables, too. "The science of discovering new chips."

The $100 and $25 chips with the new P design had been put on the tables several months ago. But despite my visiting the casino several times after that, no changeover for the lower denominations. Last weekend, I again glided into the casino to see if my chip-finding luck might change . . . and it did! New issues spotted at once.

I sidled up to a blackjack table where the dealer was opening with some new decks and waited patiently while she shuffled, separated into six stacks, moved them and shuffled them again, and handed the red card to a player also seated. He seemed perplexed so I said, "You're allowed to cut the deck." So he half-heartedly stuck the red card in there. Finally the cards went into the shoe, the dealer collected his money and my $60 as well. She handed over a stack of red fives, plus ten ones. I thanked her and walked away with them. Now both the dealer and the player were perplexed, but I was a happy dude. (I'm sure the player was thinking, "Gee, I never saw anyone win at blackjack that way before.")

Next, a ride up the escalator to the second-floor Poker Room - to see if new $2 chips had also come out. They hadn't, and the Poker Cashier informed me that they no longer sell $2 chips. No matter, I bought another stack of new chips, because - you can never have too much of a new issue, right?

And with that I glided back out to my truck. A fun casino visit indeed, the best kind of harvesting.

J. Eric Freedner

PERSONAL HARVESTING STORIES

BOOMERS PUB MISSOULA, MT

By:RICHARD “REGGIE” GUMMER

BOOMERS PUB HAS THE FOLLOWING WROTE ON EACH OF IT’S CHIPS, IT IS UNREADABLE TO THE AVERAGE PERSON. BOOMERS PUB-GAMING-GRILLE-LIQUOR. WHEN YOU WALK IN THERE, ESPECIALLY IN THE EVENING IT IS A HAPPENING PLACE. I WALKED IN THERE ONE EVENING AND WANDERED AROUND UNTIL I FOUND THIS LITTLE NOOK BACK IN A CORNER WHERE THERE WAS A SINGLE TABLE WITH 9 PLAYERS ALREADY GOING AT IT. I SAID WHO DO I TALK TO TO GET ON THE WAITING LIST. QUICKLY A YOUNG MAN SAID TO ME WHAT IS YOUR NAME YOU WILL BE NEXT IN. IT WAS NOT TOO LONG WHEN SOME GOT UP AND SAID I GOT A HOT DATE, CASH ME OUT. I BOUGHT IN FOR A BILL AND STARTED METICULOUSLY GOING THROUGH THE RACK FOR THE PERFECT CHIPS, AND AT THAT TIME THERE WAS ONLY 1’S AND 5’S AVAILABLE, BUT AS I GOT TO TALKING TO THE CARD ROOM MANAGER, THE BRUSH AND THE DEALER (ALL THE SAME GUY) HE SAID HE HAD CHIPS THEY USE FOR ANTES YEARS AGO (25c CHIPS) AND SOME TWO DOLLAR CHIPS THAT THEY NO LONGER USE, BUT WOULD NOT SELL; BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT HONOR CASHING THEM IN.
WHILE I PLAYED, I CHIT CHATTED WITH THE “BOSS” AND GOT ALONG VERY WELL WITH HIM, I POSED THE QUESTION, I KNOW YOU CAN’T SELL THESE TWO CHIPS IN QUANTITY BUT WOULD YOU SELL ME ONE EACH, HE SAID WHY NOT. HE HAD A BAR TENDER COME TO SPELL HIM FROM MARATHON DEALING SO HE COULD HIT THE HEAD, AND DO WHAT WAS NECESSARY WHILE HE GOT RELIEVED. HE THEN GOT DOWN ON HIS KNEES OPENED A SAFE THAT WAS RIGHT CLOSE TO ME, AND PULLED OUT A COUPLE OF THOSE CHIPS I WAS BEGGING FOR; HE SAID HERE YA GO, NO CHARGE. JUST DO NOT EVER TRY TO CASH THEM IN. I TOLD HIM, NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT THERE, THEY ARE GOING TO CALIFORNIA IN A FEW DAYS. LATER WHEN I CASHED OUT WITH MY POCKETS FULL OF ONES AND FIVES, I THANKED HIM AGAIN. THAT WAS A SWEET HARVEST, NO PROBLEMS AND I DID GET ENOUGH CHIPS TO LAST MANY YEARS…REGGIE
