Re: Joe's Tavern in Hawthorne closed its doors

I first visited the El Cap in 1966. They had craps, roulette, several 21 games, and lots of
mechanical slots. There were shops out front where the parking lot is now. Sorry to hear
about Joes closing. I hit a royal flush for $1843 in there once and Joe paid me off in twenties!
During WWII Hawthorne was a jumpin' place with many clubs with live gaming. Pick Hobson
had a place (Picks Club) there and he said they had to empty the Dropbox twice on swing
shift. Wish I could have been there then.
