And finally, the story I heard when I bought the lower denominations quite a few years ago --
Bought these chips from Mel Jung at a chip show when he was still an active member. He described them as prototypes that had been made, though never put into play on the tables at Trump Plaza, as far as I know. Made by Burt in Maine, using the required rim mold that Atlantic City required -- name of casino plus the chip's denomination. The quantity available was more than the usual handful of prototypes, though I don't know if thousands+ were ever made. They were always marketed at prices higher than "rack" chips.
I've seen them at chip shows over the years, and would bet at least one would be available at the upcoming chip convention. I don't have a feel for what a "fair" price would be.
