Rhyolite

When I visited Rhyolite in the 70s and 80s there was a bar and rock shop in the old train depot,
an antique shop and people who actually lived there. Later some gay folks attempted to take
over the place but were rebuffed by Nye county residents. Anyway, here's some PCs and a photo
depicting Rhyolite at a different time.

The first two PCs were taken from the same spot at different times showing the addition of some
buildings. The trading post shows Evan and Kathy Thompson who was the grandson of Tommy
Thompson who built the replica of Rhyolite out of glass shards. Evan had a $100 Exchange Bar
chip but didn't want to sell it. I had to make several trips to Rhyolite before I got him to let loose
of it. He and his wife lived in the bottle house. One of the cards shows the bottle house when it was
a museum. It was also featured in a motion picture in 1925. Three shots show the original
Rhyolite depot and when the sign was covered to read "casino" and when it said "saloon".

I can see clearly now....
I read that as the years passed, Rhyolite shrank--
