I not being a Chip collector and primarily a "Silver Striker at heart" who has collected many other casino related paraphernalia to have witnessed and enjoyed the company of those who...
1 - Make lots a money doing it - because they can and do have a knack for it
2 - like Socializing and helping others mainly as a goal
3 - Think they're gonna make some money eventually but don't
4 - Enjoy the hunt for so many different items from to many to list casino categories - crazy (I'm one)
5 - All are adrenaline rush seeking personalities "most likely"
6 - The Disenchanted - as I am "missing" the less incorporation of Vegas and our Club in general (good olden days)
and of all - The "evolution to a less personal caring environs for casino patrons" Examples are Tito, ID Card readers, employee-less dice games, Roulette round tables, pay parking, ridiculous high cost ordinary food & room surcharges etc

oh back to the original question will we get our original investment back? Depends

50 + type & denominations of brand new tokens - No takers ever
50 + type & denominations Illegal Chips was only able to sell (1) to David Spragg - that in itself was cool.
100+ Ashtrays - sold a dozen or so - slight profit
100 + type & denominations various clean common Chips - no takers ever
Silver Strikes are trade able and sale able there is a small demand
