Well...a few were probably sold in the gift shop as souvenirs and key rings. Some are marked to commemorate an occasion. I assume others were executive gifts. I bought them over the years. The basic rule was that I had to pay less for the chip in lucite than if it were not encased. (Don't want to encourage the lucite-ing of chips.)
