I was able to pick up a large group of these chips:
"Mark's Place East" was a jazz/nightclub located in Westport, CT in the early 1970's.
The owner "Mark" originally opened the place as a no-alcohol club. It failed. He then wanted to serve alcohol on the premises, and applied for a permit. The problem was that the club was located on the 2nd floor of a building, and according to the blue laws of the day, that was not allowed. The law stated that any bar must be located on the first floor with windows so police could walk by and see what was going on.
A compromise was reached. Mark could serve alcohol, but there could be no bartenders or sit down bar. Patrons would sit down and order a drink. A waitress would take the drink order, collect the cash (+ any gratuities) and go to the service bar. She was given a set amount of these chips at the beginning of the night. She would keep the cash, hand the bartender a chip(s) for the drink cost and serve it. The bartender would place the chip into a pile for each waitress. At the end of the night, the waitress was responsible to "pay" for her chips, and anything left were her tips.
I am asking for $57 for 100 of these chips - shipped (U.S.) Priority Mail. In good condition for being 40+ years old. Some of the stamps are a little worn.
I don't have as many of the white chips, so I can sell 25 each of the white/red/yellow/black in a set.
I can sell 100 each of the red/yellow/black.
Let me know if interested before, eBay.
