Why Some Cruise Ship Chips Fade!

Have you noticed quite a bit of "wet chips" that are aboard larger cruise ships today look blurry and faded? We cruise a lot and have been told by casino managers in the past that they are ordered by the ship's medical director when there is a potential outbreak of Norovirus to completely disinfect all casino chips -- which is a big job for larger ships. These harsh chemical needed to kill the virus take a heavy toll on the chip's ink and coloring. Besides fading, the chips even became very blurry. I was reading up on our future cruise, and found this Cruise Critic quote that substantiates my claim over the years.

Here's what was said, "This included sanitizing television remote controls and bibles, disinfecting poker chips and currency, discarding every pillow -- more than 2,500 -- and steam cleaning carpets. The end result? was thankfully, Norovirus-free."
