I collect New Mexico chips since my wife lived there and graduated Hobbs High. I have been chasing those chips forever. The casino was located in a Best Western Hotel & Conference center on the Apache tribe's reservation in Dulce, NM.
Four years ago, I ran across a poker player from around that part of Northern New Mexico who told me they only had two tables in the casino. Both played Black Jack, but were almost never open. Tables were available with chips, but no dealers stationed on each table. People were told only the dealers could access the chips, but there was no information as to when they would begin dealing. I just checked online and saw a few outdated reviews claiming the casino was "smokey, and players mostly played slot machines."
The late Ed Norris, who was from Albuquerque, NM didn't have the chips in his collection. He had the best collection of New Mexico chips and was a great source for me getting all the older chips. The last two conventions his chips were liquidated, and he moved to Florida where he passed away losing his fight with cancer. RIP Ed -- you taught me so much about New Mexico chips.
I contacted Best Western Hotels and they have no listings in Dulce, NM -- although they were the only hotel in the town's center. I believe it is closed. Maybe, someone closer to the situation can assess the information better. One thing that's certain, there were no $1 chips issued as the casino used $1 slot tokens when they did play black jack.
Any new information welcomed.
