Lew Hymers

Lew Hymers is one of my favorite subjects. He was a commercial artist and produced a
weekly panel in the Reno Evening Gazette featuring pen and ink portraits of the movers
and shakers of Reno. In 1944 he self published a book of his columns that had appeared
since 1938. The book sold for $5 and contained no pagination or index. Looking someone
up must have been frustrating. The book is quite rare today. It's unknown how many were
printed. Hymers moved to Tijunga Calif. around 1950 having become disappointed with the
growth of the casino industry. He suffered a stroke in 1952 and died the following year.
He was 60 years old.
Hymers produced a number of postcards. I've posted the ones I have. I you have others
I'd love to see them. By he way, Hymers did NOT draw "The Riding Lesson" used on the
Town House chips and other products. That was done by Robert Caples another Reno artist.
