A while back, I heard that these are survivors from the Harolds Club fire. Not true.

Many years ago (80's I believe), Howard Hertz bought a large inventory of obsolete, pristine Harolds Club chips from the casino. He had a lot of connections at the time. They were stored in chip boxes in his basement when he had a devastating house fire.
The lucky ones are collectors who purchased the chips before the fire.

I have a melted stack myself. Survivors from the Great Howdy Fire.
