But I am concerned about the constant negativity I see here on the board week after week.
I completely understand that there are things that people are unhappy with from time to time and constructive criticism is actually a good thing.
What I don’t understand are the posts from people who I believe really want the hobby to succeed but in the same breath criticize the club or it’s members.
Does anyone honestly believe that posts filled with negativity helps anyone?
I understand that being part of a club isn’t for everyone. Some people just don’t get along with others well in a group atmosphere. More power to them. But on the other hand, why discourage others from joining an organization that have brought so much joy to so many others?
Is there any single other organization who has brought more light, knowledge and interest to collecting casino memorabilia than the CCA ?
Love to collect casino stuff and want to see that hobby continue?
Then why spent time bashing the club?
In my years of having the pleasure of serving on the club board the most important thing I have learned is that you can’t please everyone.
For every prison that wants to see less convention stuff in the magazine, there are others that want to see more.
For everyone who wants to see the club hold conventions in other locations, there are an exhale number of people who feel that Vegas is the place to be.
Believe me, I have don’t enough surveys and talked to enough people to see the varying opinions.
So all a person or a group can do is try and make the most people happy while k owing there will also be there unhappy with any decision you make.
Every person reading this message has a choice to make.
You can either support those people trying to do their best to further the hobby, or you can choose to offer negative comments.
Those who want to make things better, submit a story to the magazine, offer to volunteer, try and sign up a new member or simply support those that are trying to help.
The decision for me was an easy one.
I live collecting casino memorabilia, I love the stories in the magazine and I love the club.
While others may not share my opinions (And I am fine with that), I am saddened that they have not had the same experiences as me.
Maybe they don’t have a blast seeing so many friends at the convention?
Maybe they don’t enjoy the multitude of great speakers at our banquets?
Maybe they don’t relish the memories of the lifelong friendships they have made with other club members.
I realize that not everyone has had the experience that I have but the great thing is that there is still time.
Life is what you make of it, enjoy it while you can as you never know how much time you have left.
Thanks for listening
