This is POSTCARD day.
I know that at least 88 different Thunderbird postcards exist. I personally have 84 different and pictures of the other 4. I am sure there are more, I just have not seen them. The majority of Thunderbird post cards were picked up at one of these locations : Thunderbird Gift Shop; various gift and souvenir shops around the Las Vegas area; Chamber of Commerce; or on your table at a show at the Thunderbird featuring the show you were attending. Many of the cards that were obtained at the Thunderbird would be mailed for free if you addressed them and dropped them off at front desk. These postcards came in many different shapes and sizes with most being the standard 3-1/2" X 5-1/2". The manufactures of these cards often took many inaccurate liberties when producing them to enhance their looks to increase sales.
The next 4 postcards shows my point about the liberties that this manufacture ( Ferris H. Scott ) took when producing a few of these cards. Notice the flowers in ( 3 ) of the them. To my knowledge there was never any of these flowers planted at the Thunderbird. They were put into the photo to add some color. Look at top two postcards and see the only difference is they added flowers to shot. Look at bottom 2 postcards and notice one card has Bird on building and other card does not, yet same shot of flowers was used in both shots and top right card also.
My favorite postcards are always the ones that show inside the hotels and casino area.
The next 3 postcards have the same image of the pool area but the wording on front is different. I showed the back of the cards to show that 2 of these were reorders and have a ( -6 ) & ( -9 ) added to card number.
In many cases when a card is reordered from manufacture nothing is changed on card except they a ( digit ) to original card number on back.
The next 4 cards are oversize in length.
The next cards are overhead shots of the property including Racetrack.
.
The next few cards would have been on your table at a show at the Thunderbird Continental Theater, Turquoise room, or Thunderbird Lounge. I would guess that it may have been possible to get these cards from Thunderbird gift shop. I have shown back of cards to show that The Thunderbird would mail them for free.
I know postcards are not for everyone, but since I collect anything Thunderbird these fall into my collecting world. Hope you enjoyed looking.
