Number 17 in roulette wheel win total payout of 1.3 million pounds – is the primary cause of the closing of a 182 years old 50 Club of London.
It started in May 2008, when a duly certified active member in the name of Mike Ashley (owner Newcastle United and he was also Sports Direct tycoon) was in Fifty Casino and was playing in roulette table for less than an hour of play time, his bet in number 17 hits and he won 1.3 million pounds.
This incident caused the casino to lost so much money, the COO Michael Silberling, deemed it after exploring and considering all options, it was to the best interest of the London Clubs International (there were 8 other casinos), was to suspend the gaming operations in Fifty Casino, only restaurants and other amenities continued to Nov 11, 2009, which eventually closed for good.
The Fifty Casino was offered for sale at 10 million pounds – 50 million pounds.
The 50 Club of London started in 1827 was 182 years in operations.
The casino was a joint venture between LCI and the Planet Hollywood entrepreneur Robert Earl.
