Re: BURMA SHAVE grin NCR
In Response To: Re: BURMA SHAVE grin ()

Archie,

My first recollection of the BURMA SHAVE poems is from when I was not quite five years old. In 1948 my family migrated from Rhode Island to California, joining the quest for better weather and jobs. I was only beginning to read, but my older brother would read the signs to me. Some of them were above my head and would have to be explained to me. Therefore, I was learning to read, and learning to understand humor. All from those litle signs. grin

Somewhere, still packed from my move to this house, is a book entitled, "The Poem by the Side of The Road." It is the story and compilation of the famous BURMA SHAVE signs. A delight to read.
