In 1947 my S. Dak. grandmother with me at 13 in tow drove to Long Beach. W/o AC we stopped at L.V. staying at the Frontier (where the general manager was a shirt tail cousin and we got in for $0); while the adults slept untilo midnight when we would attempt the crossing out of the desert, I stayed by the pool as shown in one of the cards--and watched bevies of beautiful girls dive, swim and sun; they didn't seem to have much interest in me. b
