I guess you know a lot more about Faro than I do, Mark. That's the name of Bruce Oldss book from which I learned about Faro and tiger chips and I gather is the phrase used for those poor fools who sought to bet on the coming cards. There is a neat design of a tiger in a spade on the cover that would make The General drool.
