It's interesting to see how much was liberally borrowed by and from 1950s Las Vegas. Some of the hotels, and many of the motels were named after other places (Moulin Rouge to name one example). Satellite Motel popped up next door to Stardust, copying their letter face and theme (and probably renting rooms for a buck less). Likewise, motels popped up all over the country named Flamingo, Dunes, Stardust, Desert Inn, etc.
When it comes to actual logo appropriation, the one I've never understood is the Flamingo Capri Motel, opening right next to the Flamingo, using their logo, and even copying their sign. http://vintagelasvegas.com/post/177314351244/flamingo-capri
