Story I heard was, the Captain's Mother told him the casino boat wasn't seaworthy (she came from a family of mariners). When Hurricane Erin was approaching, the Harbormaster at Riviera Beach, FL, told them they couldn't stay at the dock - fearful that the big ungainly boat would smash into smaller, expensive yachts moored there. So the Captain, Crew and Chips headed out to open sea . . . and right into the eye of the hurricane. Some of the crew were found alive in a lifeboat but the Captain and Casino Owner or Manager never were seen again. Not sure if anyone knows exactly where the ship went down, but apparently it had money as well as chips aboard.
Listen to your Mother's good advice! And wish her a happy Mother's Day for me!!
